Q: Where can I hire a classic ford mustang in Los Angeles?
My husband and I are visting Los Angeles in December and he wants to hire a classic mustang so we can drive to Las Vegas for a few days. Any suggestions where we can hire one from? Thanks!

A: Beverly Hills Rent A car has a 1972 Mustang Convertible available.

Q: What is the best looking classic Ford Mustang out there?
I want to get a classic Mustang but I am trying to figure out what model year looks the best.

A: The 69 fast back. Great looking and stronger suspension than previous years, Do alot of research B4 you buy. Mustangs are a car that can look great but be ready to crack open like an egg from rust. Find a Mustang shop in your area and stop in. Ask where to look for rust. I took an Ice-Pick to look at a 67 cause they can rust under the carpet at the doors. Thats not just the floor but the top half of the frame-tunnel. You cant see it from under and the carpet covers it up. There are lots of places to check so ask that shop. Take a magnet as well.

Q: Can You Hire a Classic Ford Mustang in Las Vegas?
I am going to Las Vegas in September on holiday and I was wondering is it possible to hire a classic Ford Mustang for a few days??
It has always been my dream to drive down a long desert road in a mustang.
Is it possible? and if so with it cost the earth?
Cheers.

A: Try this,

http://www.rental-car-in-las-vegas.com/sports-car-rentals.html
.

Q: What is the modern equivalent of a classic Ford Mustang?
30-40 years from now, what model car do you think will be similar to how we treat old Mustangs.
If I had a Mustang that was in great shape and and an awesome paint job, that would be extremely awesome. In the future, will a BMW 3 series or a Audi? Or any other car?

Thanks for your input.

A: Any car over a certain age is classic, that is why states do not discriminate between models when applying for a classic/antique/historic license/etc.. Once it hits a certain age, they are ALL classics. Beyond that, desirable models will still be low production number vehicles. I had a 1999 Saab 9-3 Viggen which had less than 500 cars with my options produced. THAT would be a classic/collector car today(as it already is) but it will all depend upon the market. The mustang is a “classic” “collectible” to a majority of the U.S. becomes a LARGE portion of the populace above the age of 30 had 1 or more in their family growing up. Owning one now brings back feelings of nostalgia. My 1973 Toyota Corolla has a very specific market(that is only getting smaller) that will only increase its value exponentially in the future. Does everyone want a 37 year old Toyota? No. Do I? Yes. It is all personal opinion.

Hope this helps, Good Luck!

Q: What would make a good classic Ford Mustang Gift?
I need to think of a holiday gift for my dad and I am not quite sure what to get him. He has a rare 1973 mustang 351 that is red in color. I kind of want my gift to have to do with his car or at least mustangs in general. I have looked around for a die cast car of his but they do not make that specific car, only the mach 1. If anyone could help me come up with an idea based around that I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks

A: if you take a photo and put it on webshots, they have lots of gifts made with the photo of your choice..

How about a T-shirt with his car on it….
http://www1.photoworks.com/shop/view-all

you might find a place that will do leather jackets.. even beltbuckles…

Q: Do you love the classic 1969 ford mustang and why?
If you love the 1969 ford mustang tell me why and if you have one tell me what it looks like. If you dont have one then tell me what your mustang would look like if you had one. The best answer will get 10 points.

A: I love the 1969 Mustang the most out of all of the Mustang models that is the year that still had the style of the 1st 2 generations but was the size of a full-size muscle car not the little pony car it started out to be. If I were to get one I would paint it a candy black with 3 stripes following the curve of the body their colors in order would be White, Silver, Dark Grey. It would have a low profile Aero hood scoop which would feed the monster of an engine a 514. It would have a 2-tone leather interior that is black and white and a license plate border that said “Here Hemi Hemi”

Q: Does anybody here have or ever had a classic ford mustang?

A: not me. i really dont care for them. but i love fairlanes.

Q: has anybody got a classic ford mustang for sale ?

A: I have a 67 shelby gt 500. It has a kenne bell supercharger with a 351 in it. I will take $50,000

Q: How much approximatley would it be to buy a Ford Mustang from america and bring it over to Ireland ?
I want to buy one of the classic Ford Mustangs and bring it over since you cant buy them here.

A: I assume you are talking about one of the mustangs produced between 1985-1973. You’d probably be looking at a minimum of $2,500 on top of the cost of the car. If vintage cars aren’t excluded from C02 emissions standards, add another 36 percent to the cost of the car.

Q: I am looking for a classic ford mustang (1967-1968 fastback). where do I go to get the best deals in ireland.

A: Not Ireland for a start. Chances are you ain’t gonna find one there, and if you do you will pay allot. As you are after a particular year/model your best bet would be to look on the net and import one yourself, this is exactly what i did. It will be cheaper even with the shipping and import duties than anything you can find in Europe. If you don’t want to go that route then check out Classic American car magazine.

This website is where i bought my motor. If they havnt got it they will find what your after.

http://classicconnection.net/

Q: any classic Ford Mustang owners
i need a trusted place to get a gas tank, steering wheel, just aftermarket replacement parts in general.
for my 16th i got 1200 dollars (i feel so lucky!) to do what i please with to get a car.

im restoring the ‘65 mustang that was “handed down” from my great grandpa,

A: Try www.superiormustangs.com

Q: Modern Classic 1965 Ford Mustang GT?
So, I want to buy this 1965 Ford Mustang GT but I also want more power. So, is it anyway possible to replace 1965 engine into modern engine like Shelby Mustang GT 500 supercharged engine? Also, suspension, A.C., gear, and brakes?

Basically, classic looks but modern-tech inside

AND, is there any company that does this? anywhere in US.

A: Probably not. And if you could, for the price of it, you could probably buy a brand new GT500.

Now, you could fit a 428 (which was in the CobraJet) in there. check Ford Racing, got to engine blocks.

Q: where can i find a project mucsle car thats a ford mustang classic i want to fix it and sup it up?

A: Most of my fixer uppers have been found on craigslist or the sunday paper. I would stay away from ebay unless the seller is with in driving distance so you can check out the car.

Q: Classic Ford Mustang Time Commitment?
I’ve been looking to buy a 1964-1967 Mustang. I see several for sale ads stating that the seller no longer has the time to work on the car. How much time should I expect to “work” on the car? What kind of “work” should I expect to do? Thanks!
To clarify, I am not asking how much time I should expect to work on a specific car. My question is how much should I expect to work on a classic Ford Mustang generally to keep it in good shape. I assume that since multiple sellers are selling because they don’t have time to devote to the car, the time commitment would be much more than for my current 2002 model vehicle, which is basically minimal to none. Thanks!

A: Well, it depends on several things:

1.) First, how far do you want to go with the restoration? There is a huge difference in time and money to make a “rough but running” car a “daily driver” vs. a “20-footer” vs. a “true show car.” Depending on the model, there’s a practical limit to what this car is going to be worth (at each of these restoration tiers) when you’re done.

2.) How much rust? If this is surface rust without rot or perforation, a good prep and repaint will do the trick. Pay careful attention to the floorboards (front and rear), the lower lips on the fenders, the lower door edges, the rocker panels and the front and rear fascia under the bumpers. Check underneath, too (exhaust, brake & suspension components & associated mounting points).

3.) Are the engine, transmission and driveline sound? If so, do you intend to keep them stock?

4.) How much work on the inside? Specifically, are the gauges, radio, heater/vent controls, etc. present and working? Glass? Weatherstrips? What needs to be done?

5.) Apart from restoration, how much regular maintenance or mechanical repair needs to be done? Brakes? Wheels/Tires? Craigslist can be your friend for upgraded wheels/tires.

The good news is that, given the popularity of early Mustangs, there are numerous sources for Mustang restoration and performance parts. Start with your local wrecking yard / auto recycler, move on to J C Whitney for general stuff, then to any of the myriad Mustang performance / enthusiast sites on the web.

If you are a decent mechanic and can do paint prep properly, you can cut your costs considerably on a project like this. Years ago, I bought and restored a ‘63 Falcon (from “rough but running” to “20-footer” status) with my father-in-law. It took 2 years of on-and-off weekend work, lots of trips to the wrecking yard and research in mail-order catalogs and about $3,000, but it was one of the best things we’ve ever done together.

Good luck!

RESPONSE TO YOUR FOLLOW-UP:

I suspect your sellers are referring to the restoration “work” still to be done, rather than routine maintenance. Following restoration, these cars are really pretty trouble-free. Here’s a few thoughts, based on my own experiences (see end of my original post above):

You will need to do oil and filter changes every 3,000 miles (which, BTW, you ought to be doing on your 2002 model as well – check the “harsh conditions” service interval recommendations – you’re likely unwittingly driving under “harsh conditions” as defined).

Because you’re working with a carbureted / mechanical ignition system on a 64-67, you will need more frequent and extensive tune-ups than with fuel injection and electronic ignition – including periodic adjustment / replacement of plugs, points, condenser and replacement of cap and rotor – every second year or so. You can mitigate this by retrofitting an aftermarket electronic ignition system – many offerings are available for the Mustang.

Some suspension components which are “factory sealed” or not serviceable on newer models have zerk fittings and are meant to be serviced as part of routine oil changes / lubes.

Older transmissions, power steering pumps/boxes, water pumps, alternators, etc. don’t really require more service by design, but you should make an effort keep fluids changed and things adjusted in view of the age of these components.

This is the sort of required / preventive maintenance you’d expect with any vehicle of this age, though.

Again, good luck! Sounds like a fun project!

Q: classic ford mustang 1960s?
in good condition run very well

A: go to a junkyard

Lookin for Mustang Cobra for sale? Find more auto classifieds and Used Cars at Used-Cars.Corral.net

Q: What is a reasonable price to sale my Ford SVT Cobra Mustang?
2001 black, convertible, excellent condition except a few small chips on the hood from the previous owner, cold air intake from K and N. Ford MACH 5 sound system. Everthing else is all stock. 73K miles.
I went throught the whole car and change out all of the fluids because they seemed to be a little old. I went and did the full tune up, change all the filters through out. I intended on keeping this car but now we have a baby on the way and is now pointless for my wife to even try to get in it.
Long story short, I bought it from a dealership, paid too much, tried to treat it like a baby and now it’s time to sale. Help me find a price to sale in Southern California.

A: First question, do you owe on it? If so, than that is your bottom selling point (unless your upside down). I know its going to seem dissapointing, but KBB says its worth about 14,800. I used the good price because I’ve yet to see a car with 73k that in my eyes was excellent. I baby my cars too, but 73k of driving will put some wear on the exterior of any well maintained vehicle especially a vert. I used San Diego as the city, so who knows. The problem with your car (not that its really a problem) is that it looks like a “Terminator” but isn’t supercharged. I’d put it at 17 and see if you get any bites. The 03-04’s are fetching 25k so maybe you’ll find someone who wants the look but not the extra sticker price.

Q: 1998 Mustang SVT Cobra speed????????
I found a 1998 mustang SVT Cobra for sale. Its got a procharger and tons of other stuff making it have 479 HP at the wheels. They said it ran 12.3. Does that sound about right? Also – I am just curious what the 0-60 time would be for a car like this. I know its a pointless figure but just curious.
also what would you pay for a car like this? Its in perfect condition and has a little under 90 thousand miles

A: mid 12’s is about right for a mustang with this power – depending on tires & driver.
0-60 is again subject to driver abilities, tires and overall set up….but expect it should be well under 5

the 03/04 terminator series cobras (factory supercharged, 6 sp. narrow gate transmission) were rated at around 400HP and run 0-60 in well under 5, do the 1/4 in 12.9 (stock).

i would only purchase this car based on a full mechanical ck by a pro shop (compression test, review of the supercharger installation, brakes, suspension, etc).

i assume the car also has an aftermarket clutch and bigger rear end gears.

if the car has been properly set up, and has been pro tuned post supercharger installation i would think in the range of $12,000 would be reasonable price….if all cks out ok. it would likely be worth more if it had a better supercharger installation – modified twin screw design like a kenne bell or whipple (they are more expensive but deliver power earlier & in more linear fashion)

cheers 04 cobra (2.3 whipple blower @ 15lbs, 60lb injectors, BAP, fuel rails, MAFia, magnaflow exhaust system, some other stuff, pro tuned to run on 94 octane – measured at 575rwHP on dyno)

Q: Is there such thing as a 1965 Mustang Cobra?
I found a real nice mustang for sale and im not sure if this is a original grill and parts. It says it is a 1965 Ford Mustang Cobra. But me and others aren’t sure if they were made.
I found a real nice mustang for sale and im not sure if this is a original grill and parts. It says it is a 1965 Ford Mustang Cobra. But me and others aren’t sure if they were made. Also the car was dark blue on the outside and had white interior. It was a coupe not a fastback. Also it had a 289 under the hood. Originally it had a 4 speed transmision but the owner took it out and had a 5 speed put in.

A: uhh no

Q: i need to find 1960 to 1969 cobra mach1 jet mustangs for sale from $2500 to $6000?
i need it all original stock and emitioned

A: good luck with that. (sarcasm)

you can’t in that price range unless it’s a wreck.

Q: Can you put an 03′ Mustang Cobra supercharger on a 99′ Mustang Cobra?
I have a 99′ Cobra almost stock w/90000miles. I would like the extra power the 03′-04’s have. What do I need for the conversion if it can be done? Should I do a rebuid first? I’ve seen just the supercharger for sale and ones with the whole intake, injectors, and wireing. Do I need the whole thing?

A: you will need the whole engine since they are special built to take the extra hp

Q: Is $7000 a reasonable price for a 2000 Mustang GT?
The silver mustang is on sale from a private seller. The mustang has a cobra bumper, cobra hood, and cobra rims.

Do you think it is a reasonable price if not what would you pay

i m not sure of the milage

A: A little high, talk him down to $6,500

Q: Who has a mustang cobra?
I want to buy one but I cant find one. Can you give me any websites that I can llok at mustngs for sale?

A: go to ebay…there is a lot of nice cars on ebay. Just go to the link i posted.

Q: “cobra rr hood w/scoops” for a 1996 mustang cobra…ever seen one?
i know this hood exists because ive seen it on mustangs in magazines but i havent seen it for sale anywhere…..ive only seen it sold by one company, liberty mustang supply, but they seem a bit on the shady side…anyone know FOR SURE where i can get it? also anyone know of “liberty mustang supply”?

A: Here is who people I know use for Mustang Hoods. You could also try east coast Mustang.

http://www.abcexclusive.com/hoods_main.htm#rr800

Q: musang cobra 2003 question?
i was looking at a mustang for sale and i saw this picture and im wondering what that thing in the picture is for

here is the site for the mustang for sale

http://autos.yahoo.com/used-cars/ford-mustang-pictures-cars308433246;_ylt=AtKSxQnk_NY7gStPiS22FEZNa454;_ylv=3?keywords=cobra&sortcol=price&sortdir=up&modelyearub=2004&modelyearlb=2002&askpriceub=any&askpricelb=any&deliverymileageub=any&deliverymileagelb=any&location=Elgin%2C+IL+60123&listingtype=used&model=mustang&make=ford&distance=50&picstart=1

and here is the site of the picture im talking about

http://s301.photobucket.com/albums/nn59/luisleon05/?action=view&current=666666.jpg

please give me some answers

A: judging by the description i would say it is for the line lock

Q: 03-04 Mustang Cobra Supercharger?
I saw in the local classifieds a stock supercharger up for sale…I’ve always thought about soopin’ up my stang more. So I thought, “would I be able to slap in a ‘terminator’ supercharger in a 2000 mustang v6?

A: With the correct attachments….yes. If it was for a V-8 you will need to change the blower pulley. The v-8 boost would be too much for the v-6

Q: Why did Camaro and Trans Ams sales slip, compared to the Mustang?
How did the Camaro and Trans Am’s sales fall so low that GM cut production?

For about the same price as the Mustang, the Camaro and Trans Am were always a bit more powerful. (Even the 1999-2004 Mustangs only had a 190 HP V6 and the a 260 HP V8, While 1998-2002 Camaros and Firebirds had a 200 HP V6 and a 305 HP V8 engine. Still the 2007 Mustang GT falls short of 5 HP than the 1998-2002 Camaro, which is several years older).

Mustang enthusiast had to buy the more expensive Mustang Cobra to have comparable times to the base Camaro z28 and Trans Am.

With the Camaros and Trans Ams being more powerful, how is it that they’re production numbers fell?

A: For one thing, some corrections are in order.

The question shoud be phrased with “Firebird” not “Trans Am” because that was what the base model was.

Additionally, you claim the Mustang was available with up to 260hp, but then you mention the Cobra. Why do you make that distinction, yet you don’t make it for the WS6/SS packages? You’re not comparing apples to apples, especially considering the Z/28 and Trans Am’s base engine was around 285hp. This can also be argued when you point out the older Camaro makes more than the current GT. What about the Shelby GT? GT500? GT500KR?

The F-bodies sold in combined numbers that were not equal to the Mustang’s. Why was that?

For one thing, the Mustang’s core buyers were women. The Mustang was not overstyled like the F-bodies, so visibility was better, ingress/egress was better, and it was just a more comfortable car.

Meanwhile, the F-bodies were clearly targeted to men. And when they got that insurance bill, they often decided to get another vehicle – in many cases, pickup trucks with RWD.

The plant in Canada that built these cars were better utilized to building cars were GM could make a decent profit, which was very important because GM was not in great shape at the time. Blaming bean counters is not telling the whole story, and I don’t blame GM for getting rid of the cars – they just didn’t have the resources to redesign them, especially considering they needed to sell a certain amount that just wasn’t happening. But time heals wounds, and we all know the Camaro is coming back.

Horsepower is not the clincher in the sales wars. The F-bodies were difficult cars for a large percentage of auto buyers, and their needs were better met by the Mustang or smaller, more practical sport coupes.

Q: Used Ford Mustang GT500 Cobra 2007, Thinking of buying, what should the Price be?
I tried to use Blue book and it said they could not get a price on one of them. Ford dealer wants $40,299. That still very close to the price for a new one is. It was like new really, but its way over price me and my dad and even the sales thought. What do you think the price should be?
10,000 on it

A: I would deffinately not pay more then $36,000. I can find a bunch from private sellers that have half the milage and they are asking between $35,000 and $38,000. If I were you, I would take a look at private sellers. Since you will be buying a car that has so few miles on it and you buy from an adult you know the car wont be abused and the factory warranty will still be present. Not only will you find a car for a lot less but on top of that you will save thousands because you wont have to pay sales tax. You are probally looking at saving at least $5,000 by going with a private seller.

Q: What are some good internet sites that have replica cars for sale?
Im looking for some good internet sites that have Already Built (turnkey) replica cars for sale. Whether its a company or just a listing of classifieds. Im interested mostly in shelby cobras, lamborghinis, and shelby gt500 mustang replicas. PLEASE HELP! thanks.

A: ebay, motors, replica cars has a bunch of them.

Q: Escrow service for private party out of state used car sale?
I’m in California selling a Mustang Cobra, The buyer is in Michigan.
I have heard of escrow services that act as a neutral 3rd party, holding the title and payment until the sale is completed.

Can someone explain this process and maybe recommend an escrow service ?
Dude, I’ll be arranging it. It’s done with ebay sales on a regular basis to avoid scams.
I didn’t say it was an ebay service, I said it’s done with ebay sales, those who buy and sell on ebay commonly use a 3rd party escrow service.

A: Dude, I’ll be arranging it. It’s done with ebay sales on a regular basis to avoid scams.
———–

This is news to Ebay. They don’t have their own escrow service.

Coincidentally, people get scammed on a regular basis. Hmmm.

Q: what is the fee of a 1991 mustang that hasnt been registered for 2 years in the state of california?
its a black 1991 gt cobra mustang it was a car for the drag strip but i want it to take it back to the streets what would be the fee? it was mid 2007 the car wont pass smog since the smog equipment was taken out since the car was carb’d what would be the fee?

i would call dmv but need an estimate right now before i lock in a deal with a seller the car is rare and from what i understand these were only manufactured in canada and is hard to find on this side of the US.

and another question i have is he has the has the vehicle transfer and reassignment form and 2007 registration but lost the pink slip and he said all thats needed for it to be able to be registered is to pass smog i will have my uncle do all the work for it to pass smog but in order to register it what will i need to do? can i just get the bill of sale including the 07 reg. and the other forms stated above?
btw what evers possible im willing to go through with it to me this cars worth the trouble

A: I would estimate from your information that you will be looking at expenses of $1000 +

Q: Classic Mustang Rental in Philadelphia?
I am getting married in July- and it is my fiance’s dream to have us ride in a classic mustang. – The Shelby era. Do you know if we can rent one in the Philadelphia / Princeton area? Thanks!

A: I would contact the national Mustang Club of America or S.A.A.C. which stands for Shelby American Automobile Club.
One or both of these clubs will be able to help you find an owner in your area that rents his car out for weddings. Many owners do this all the time for movies,TV,print ads, weddings and so forth. My personal choice for a wedding would have to be a 1969 Shelby convertibile.in one of the “Grabber” colors
offered back then.

Q: Where to see classic mustang styles?
Well im getting a 65 Mustang 289 i think, and i dont know that much about cars… ive seen it once before but i wanted to know if somone could tell me a place with a photogallery of them?

I cant seem to find the right one… its either a shelby or a gt or a fastback or somthing. I belive mine is just a normal 65 mustand Coup with a v8 289. anyone help me out here with a place with pics?

A: google image search is about the best place to go for pics…

if you need any parts check out
http://mustangsunlimited.com/
i buy most my parts through them… they have everything..
congrats on the new stang if you have any questions please ask me….

Q: What’s the name of this kind of Shelby Mustang?
I saw a beautiful classic car in a showroom a while ago, and now I’m trying to find a picture of it online so I can stare at it some more.

I know it was a Shelby Mustang Cobra. It had black leather interior and I’m almost positive it had a bench seat in the front (rather than buckets). It was pretty curvatious overall. Convertable. Anyone have any idea what model this is?
It can’t be GT500 because that didn’t come out until 2007.
This probably from around the late sixties or early 70s.
Okay, now I’m sure it’s a Shelby and a Cobra and not so sure it was a Mustang. I’m still looking for a pic online.
Thanks dallen, I have been searching for one with a bench. No wonder I haven’t been able to find it.

A: Do a google search for shelby mustangs and you will find links to many sites and pictures. Carroll Shelby (That’s HIS last name, not his daughter’s name. Mercedes was a daughter’s name!!) has been designing and modifying cars since the 60’s. He took the British 2 seat sportscar, the AC Ace, which came with the Bristol 4 cylinder engine and stuck a Ford 260 CI V-8 in it, modified the suspension and began the AC Cobra line. He even developed his own body called the Daytona for the AC frame to make a racing coupe for the faster tracks. The Cobras were later available with the 289 and finally the King Cobra with the Ford 427. Ford then had him mod some mustangs starting in 1965 that were called GT 350’s (with the 289 V-8) and in 1967 and 68 added the GT 500’s (with 427 and 428 V-8’s) His hottest Mustang back then was the GT 500 KR in 1968 that had 650 hp at the rear wheels. The 1970 GT 350 was the last of the old ones. He now has a contract modding mustangs for Ford into the new GT 500’s. (I live right down the road from his facilities) The one_thing I can say is You won’t find a bench seat in a Shelby design. He always used buckets for their ability to hold the driver behind the steering wheel in corners.

Q: which car is faster stock?
which is faster with no modifications, everything is stock? the 1967 shelby gt 500 or the 1968 shelby gt 500 kr? and if you can tell me which classic shelby mustang is the fastest overall as stock with the year and specs that would be great too. thanks!

A: The 1967 Shelby GT 500
Specifications
Wheelbase, inches: 108.0
Weight, lbs: 3,000
Number built: 2,050
Base price: $4,195

Standard Engine
Type: ohv V-8
Displacement, cid: 428
Fuel system: 2 x 4 bbl.
Compression ratio: 10.5:1
Horsepower @ rpm: 355 @ 5400
Torque @ rpm: 420 @ 3200

Representative Performance
0-60 mph, sec: 6.2
1/4 mile, sec @ mph: 14.6 @ 99

1968kr
Wheelbase, inches: 108.0
Weight, lbs: 3,200
Number built: 1251
Base price: $4,473

Standard Engine
Type: ohv V-8
Displacement, cid: 428
Fuel system: 1 x 4bbl.
Compression ratio: 10.6:1
Horsepower @ rpm: 335 @ 5200

Representative Performance
0-60 mph, sec: 6.0
1/4 mile, sec. @ mph: 14.3 @ 100

so it looks like the 68 is a tad faster. Due to weight more then likely.

Q: What is your favorite classic or vintage sports car?
Mine would be a vintage 1966 Shelby Mustang GT350

A: Ford GT40

Q: Eleanor Mustang or original mustang?
Which do you like better?

Eleanor: http://www.autoblog.com/gallery/review-1967-classic-recreations-eleanor-mustang/med/#7

Original: http://www.topspeed.com/cars/shelby/1967-shelby-mustang-gt-500-ar861/picture14540.html

I like the original, but I’m just taking a poll.

A: Yeah, I like the old ones too but, they’re getting harder and harder to find. When you do find one it’s going to cost a small fortune. The new ‘67 & ‘68 fastback bodies that are being produced give those who have the ability to do the work to build a clone for a lot less. Doesn’t have to be an Eleanor though. You can build it to suit yourself.

Q: Why would anybody buy a new Ford Shelby GT500?
Even though it has history and it is the cheapest car with 500bhp, it is the worst form of Mustang. What Shelby did was they took the standard Ford Mustang GT and took the engine out and put the engine from a Ford GT, which is all great. But the one thing that is a big turn off from the car is that they took the suspension and the brakes from the classic GT500 and put it into the new one, which is technically the worst decision in car history. i mean Ford is like “okay, we’ll build a new GT500 with a great engine so we can fix the mistakes the classic made but we’ll put the same suspension so it’ll make the same mistakes.” its rubbish. and when Ford was asked why they put the old suspension, they said it would add 10,000 dollars to the final price of the car. its such an idiotic move by Ford/Shelby. If I was gonna spend 50,000 dollars on a car, i would definitely spend an extra 10,000 on the suspension. so in conclusion, consumers step away from the GT500 and go for the standard Mustang GT or go with the classic one instead. But if you really want a new tuned mustang, i would go for the Roushe Mustang which has modern suspension and modern brakes. and the Roushe is about 60 grand which is BMW M3 money.
to DAD: not quite. its pointless to make an upgrade to a car if your gonna leave it the sameway as it was. its like Microsoft making Windows Vista with the same security problems as Windows XP….its just not right.

to YMCPA: not quite as well, it wasn’t Jeremy Clarkson who said it, it was Richard Hammond as well. so what are you gonna do?
I got it from research and a show called Top Gear. and no i am not a racer, im just a student driving a Mitsubishi Eclipse

A: Good question.
Eventhough it has 500HP, it is slower than some 300HP cars.
It is heavy and boxy in shape, so it is not aerodynamic.

Q: WHAT ARE SOME SWEET, CLASSIC OLD CARS!!!!?
im talking cars from the late 1968(to early)1975…. good classic cars like.. dodge challengers & chargers, shelby mustangs, lambo miuras, amc javelins, chevelles, buick rivieras, buick wildcat, bonneville convertibles, SS’ cameros, ford mustangs ( NOT TO BiG A FAN OF FORDS? idk :s) monte carlos, Plymouth’s bbarracudas… you get the idea

A: well actualy you could easily go back just a tad farther and get the same results
67-69 cuda, gen 1 celica, back when the skyline was a datsun, 1969 toyota 2000gt, fist gen datsun z just to name a few

Q: What is your favorite classic car?
Be specific!!!
Mine is a ‘67 Ford Mustang GT 500 Shelby, gun metal silver, with black stripes….

A: 1956 porsche speedster super 90 cabriolet triple black

Q: HELP!! Vintage MUSTANG choices!!?
Ok so I want a 1966 for mustang. Either white or cherry red. And idk if I want a convertible or not. Alright so my question is: what makes or models where made in 1966!? Like there is the coupe, GT, Shelby, fastback, convertible, classic? What are all the models? And what is the price range for these vehicles? What about insurance?
With the 1966 models out of coupes and convertibles what engine types are there? Also what codes are there? And I’ve heard I’d like blah blah 286?

A: you seem to know the models and the only engines were the 289 v8 or the 200 in six..although you could get the 289 in 3 stages of tune, 200, 225 and 271 HP.

Q: Top 5 classic rides?
What are your top 5 favorite classic rides. I’ve been going to alot of car shows and i want to know, what your favorites are.

-1969 Charger (black w/ yellow stripes)

A: 1968 GTO convertible (Red)
1970 Mustang (Red)
1978 Trans Am (Silver)
1955 Chevy (any color)
1957 Chevy (any color)

Q: classic muscle car showdown Australia vs the USA?
ford mustang boss 302 vs ford falcon xy gt
Chevrolet chevelle vs Holden hk monaro
1969 Shelby gt 500 vs ford falcon xc cobra
and last but not least Mad Max Interceptor vs the general lee

A: Sounds like it would be fun to go to.

Q: Cool, fast, Classic Cars?
that could be anything i guess, i like cars like the 68′ shelby gt, or the new mustangs.
note: they don’t have to be mustangs

A: The first generation Trans Am.

Q: what are your favorite cars?
My Favorites :

1965 – 68 Ford Mustang ( Fastback )
1967 Ford Shelby ( Blue with white stripes )
1999 – 04 Ford Mustang GT
2003 – 09 Nissan 350 Z
I also like CHevrolet Pick ups ( ’50s and ’60s )

A: Any GM 1968-71 muscle car. Favorite is 1970 Chevrolet Chevelle SS. Also 66/67 corvette convertible.

Lookin for Classic Mustang sale? Find more auto classifieds and Used Cars at Used-Cars.Corral.net

Q: who knows of a classic mustang for sale?
Does anyone know of a ford mustang in the year range of 1966 to 1969 thats for sale. it can be in bad condition, i will fix it up. and is there any benifits to having a classic mustang. any bad reasons to have one?

A: There’s always a lot of them around for sale. Just read the ads. The benefits are a very recognizable and desirable car to drive. The drawbacks is that if you get one in bad condition it can keep you broke for a long time restoring it. Theft is also a problem. Few are ever recovered as they’re usually stripped for parts.

Q: has anybody got a classic ford mustang for sale ?

A: I have a 67 shelby gt 500. It has a kenne bell supercharger with a 351 in it. I will take $50,000

Q: Installing Airbags in classic Mustang?
I found a 1968 mustang coupe for sale that I was planning on buying. My dad has vetoed the idea because it has no airbags. Is there a way of installing airbags in this car so I can try to change his mind?

A: Talk with your dad and find out if there can be a compromise of some sort- for example, does the car have seatbelts? Agree with your dad that you’ll take driver’s safety lessons, and sign a contract that you promise to always wear your seatbelt whenever you drive. Ask him if that is acceptable, since the classic Mustang doesn’t have airbags.

Or, you could buy a newer Mustang that already has airbags instead. The choice is yours. Good luck!

Q: Does anyone know a website that sales classic muscle cars like 67 mustang?
Also for under $20,000 and for a 16 years old.

A: Best site for finding antique and specialty cars at a fair price is amazingly enough Ebay .. some are no reserve auction and others are simply purchase .. check it out. Go to www.autotrader.com also and search .. they have quite a few dealers.

Q: A few questions about finding a good Classic Mustang, please help?
We have looked at a few and just can’t seem to find the right one, one was sold before we even got a change to look at it, apparently they sale really fast, one was beautiful but the more we looked at it, it was all mismatched parts on it, and the other one had alot of rust.

1. How much rust it too much?
2. Is it hard to find a good one for $10,000 or less?
3. Where’s the best place to look for classic cars?

A: Your not going to find a 65-73 Mustang with no rust, just make sure it’s not into the frame and support structures.

Check out Classic Car Trader, they are online and have magazines out at 7/11 etc. they have a Mustang and Ford traders too.

http://www.autotraderclassics.com/

Good luck!

Q: Anyone use MoneyBookers to purchase a car from a private seller?
I have a feeling this is a scam but Ill ask anyway. I found a car on craiglist for sale (Classic Mustang) for less than $5000 and in mint condition from the pics. BUT the seller claims he lives in one state and the car is in North Dakota, and he needs to sell the car cause he is moving, and wants to use moneybookers to complete the transaction, I think its scam, but other opinions would be appreciated.
I dont like the idea that this guy knows my name, address and phone # but he doesnt have any of my bank or credit card info.

A: It’s a scam.

Remember, at the top of the page on Craigslist, it says “Offers to ship cars are 100% fraudulent”.

There’s always a story behind it, such as military/divorcing/moving overseas/death in family. Seller cannot communicate on the phone (don’t believe me… ask them to call you), wants to use some “official-sounding” escrow service (like MoneyBookers, Yahoo! Protection Plan, eBay Protection, etc.) so that you’re both “protected”. They offer to ship the car to you on their dime, have you inspect it, you have 7-10 days to return it, etc.

All of these are the same scam. My guess is that the ad has already been flagged and pulled.

Don’t fall for it. Once you wire funds, they’re GONE. No “gimme my money back”, nada. And there is no retrieving it. It’s overseas and gone.

Q: Need help on what to look for in a 1964 Ford Mustang?
I’ve just spotted a 64 Mustang today at work that was up for sale. I called up the guy and he was asking for $5,800 for it with 68,000 mileage rebuilt engine, 3rd owner, Automatic. I’m seriously considering picking up the car. Since I was at work I couldn’t test drive it (I do park field work). My question is, what do I look for in a classic Mustang so I won’t get rip off or get a car that has too many issues. What are the pros and cons of the 64’s that I should be aware of. I know nothing about American cars (sorry but I was born into the import scene all my life) but want this car. Are the price expensive and are the parts available if anything was to happen? Any concerns I should have? The link belong is the exact same look besides the convertible detail.

Thanks for the help!

A: I hate to be the one to burst your bubble, but there is no 1964 Mustang, only the 65…the early production (April to Aug 64) are called 64 1/2’s.. to tell if it is one, it has to have a engine code of one of these..D,F or U .. that’s the last letter before the unit number.. I would shy away from a U code, you can spot them by their 4 lug wheels, they originally came with a 170 ci inline 6, but odds are it’s been replace long ago. the problem with them is their small brakes, no good for stopping, so unless you are doing a complete resto rod with new everything don’t go there..

and like the others have said, watch out for rust, especially in the subframe assemblies.. also make sure the dataplate on the door matches the vin on the top of the drivers fender…learn how to decode by printing out a vin decoder, there’s one in the links of the group below..

Q: How to sell antique & classic cars online?
I am handling the sale of an estate. It includes a 1964 1/2 Mustang, 1941 Chevrolet, 1969 Charger (the Gen. Lee year?) and an Alfa-Romero. Advice sought on the best way to get the widest buyer base?

A: The best way to go is Hemmings.com. They only handle antique, historical and classic cars. Be sure to include pictures of the cars that show their real condition. Do not hide any imperfections. Potential buyers will greatly appreciate this. Good luck.

Q: Obtaining title for inheritied classic vehicle?
I inherited my father’s 1965 Ford Mustang when he passed in 2000. It sat on his property up until recently, and has too many repairs for me to keep up with effeciently. I want to sell the vehicle, but we possess neither a title nor a bill of sale. My father owned the vehicle for over 10 years before he died, but we have nothing to prove this.

The vehicle has a very old tag issued in Alabama, but I live in Oklahoma. I’m not sure how this affects getting a title.

How can I obtain a legal title or bill of sale so that I can sell the Mustang?

A: Many DMV offices in the US will make it hard on you if you apply for a lost title.

Some will want you to put up a bond (your own money) that the state will keep for years to cover them in case the vehicle turns up as stolen.

Once a set number of years has passed, they will finally send you the title, and even then it could be a salvage title – hurting the value of your car.

There is a way around this for cars older than 1974:

http://www.broadwaytitle.com/

I know many people who have used their services, and it is a great way to get a real title for your car in a short amount of time.

It is really simple – taking advantage of the fact that Alabama did not require titles for cars before 1974. If you buy an old car from Alabama, all you will get is a bill of sale and proof of registration (license plates). The DMV in your state most likely will have to accept this and issue you a new title.

Broadway will supply you with these documents for a fee. It is a loophole – but also very legal.

Make sure you double check that your state’s DMV will accept a bill of sale and registration from Alabama (most of them still do) – and you will be set.

Good luck!

Q: What it’s a good cheap, classic car? Preferably convertable and I need to have a V8 engine?
examples: Plymouth Road Runner, Oldsmobile Cutlass, etc. My budget goes as high as $6000. I have automotive body and engine experience so if you think if I can find a banged up one that needs work that’ll do. I’m kinda looking for a good ole’ muscle car and tying to steer clear from Mustangs. I’m mostly looking car brands and makes only, not links to cars on sale. THANKS

A: With a Budget of 4000 to 4500 for a car 2000 to 1500 for fix up. You can Shop all day but you need to narrow it down to a Few ? You know your not going to get a rare car So look out side the box.

I found a 69 LeMans convertible for 3500 but no motor. But couldn’t pass it up.

Another off the wall year is a 65 66 67 Rambler American Convertible easy to swap a SBC into.

If you look around on ebay at convetibles you can see different ones over the years that would be best for you.

If you go to swap meets The price on the 1st day of a 3 day weekend will be MORE than the price on Saturday evenings price.

looking for the off not wanted cars well find you a great car and your budget is a good set…

GM 1965 to 1972 Custom S, LeMans, Tempest
Gm 1965 to 1972 Skylark
GM 1965 to 1969 F-85 Olds S or Cutlass

Ford 69 XL
Ford 70 71 72 Mustang

Import ? I saw a 72 Triumph Stag with a V8 SBC in it guy only wanted 800 for it. Thats a 4 seater Hart top convertible

Q: Is this muscle car site real? Somebody please help me?
http://www.collectorcarsforsale.com/
That is the site with the muscle cars for sale. I REALLY need to know if it is legit or not. I need some help because I love muscle cars to death. And this seems like a perfect buy. But it also seems WAY too good to be true. http://www.collectorcarsforsale.com/classic-cars-for-sale/l2430.html
That is one of the 68 mustangs for sale. I know this car is REALLY expensive, but the parts on it seems brand new, not the actual original. I know putting the new parts on a muscle will lower the value but this seems way too unreal. I really really need help with this. Could the car also be just one big remake? Because I know you can remake an entire body. I really need answers if this is legit or not. And why is it so cheap.

A: The site is for real, but anyone can put an ad on there for 20.00. You are barking up the wrong tree asking here, you need to research that specific car and seller. A good start would be calling the seller on the phone.

Q: Are there any cars under 1000 that are reliably and good?
You see my mom is going to buy me a car when I graduate from high school. But I want a car before that, and my mom doesn’t think a 16 year old should have a car. So even through she thinks that she will still let me buy my own if my dad puts it under his insurance and he registers it. So I’m all set to do this, and my dad told me for a first car he would pay 800 to get used to driving and it won’t be horrible if I mess it up. So now I have like 9 months to get the money. But I don’t really know any good cars for this price, but i was thinking an old honda civic because the accords use to be bad. Oh and just to let you know when I graduate I’ll probably sell my old car when my mom buys my new one which will probably be a 2005 mustang or a 65 mustang because ones on sale for 8500 and if its like that later I’ll probably get the classic thanks for the answers.

A: You can occasionally find a decent car in that price range but you need to have any used car checked out by a mechanic before you buy it.

Q: Whats a good first car? preferably Muscle wise?
I am 16 and will have my license on Dec 4th. ( If I pass the test ((I will :] )) And Ive been looking online for used cars for sale. I have 1200$ saved for a car and I want a Muscle car (of course). Nothing new like the new mustang or anything but I want an old mustang or nova or like a muscle car. Whats a good idea for a first muscle car? Something that isn’t now a days a classic.. please I’ve looked everywhere online, and I’m desperate, and right about now, I’m not really caring what car I get at all, a car si a car, but I’m asking on your opinions for a cheap, (lower than 12004) muscle car. I just need ideas so i KNOW what i want.
Ok, i guess i wont get a muscle car then, it’s not THAT important. But then would would be a good alternative? Ive been reading the answer and looking at the suggestions.

A: you dont have enough money to buy a muscle car that runs

Q: looking for dj’s please help like cammy rankin boonie?
does anyone know about any more unsigned dj’s like cammy or simialr sort of music

Q: Does anyone knoe how much it would cost for a new driver to insure a classic Mustang?
$ for a new driver to insure classic mustang, elcamino, chevelle, cars of that sort.

A: it will be classified as a regular car if your under 25 you can’t have a classic car insured as a clssic till the owner and the car are both 25 or over and there are alot of rules to having a car classed as a classic

Q: Is it possible to turn a Classic Mustang Coupe into a Convertible?
I’ve always wanted the Mustang Convertible.

I’ve noticed that good Convertibles are much more expensive than good Coupes.

Is it possible to turn Coupe into a Convertible? Or would it be too costly?

Please don’t yell at me for wanting to butcher a classic car (which I have not done), I was only wondering if anyone knew how expensive this type of thing would be.

A: It is not possible. A convertible has much more bracing then a coupe. This bracing keeps the frame and body from flexing and keeps the car rigid. If you simply cut the top off a coupe you’d be left with a very unstable vehicle.

The cost of making it right would be much more than simply buying a ragtop to begin with.

Q: What are some nice looking CLASSIC cars that are not as popular as Camaro, Mustang, GTO, etc?
I am looking to buy a classic car to build with my nephews, but not something so main stream. I want something fairly easy to find, but still looks nice. Anything would be appreciated….

A: I really liked the Chevelles from that era…they were awfully nice looking cars…even the ones that didn’t have the enormous “muscle car” motors.
I also liked the Plymouth Barracuda (1969 was probably their best year for looks).
And I had a friend with a 1973 Dodge Challenger convertible that was one of the prettiest cars I’ve ever seen.
Good luck with the project…

Q: mustang codes on classic cars>>>code a,b, j, etc.?
im looking to buy a 67-71 mustang gt and i keep finding different codes for the model. i found code a, code b, code j, etc. what do they mean and which one is the most valueable? also, im torn between a 71 fastback and a 70 mach 1. whats everyones opinion on the two and whih ones is “best”, for lack of a better word.

A: Found on the door tag the codes are for in this order 66-68 body, color, trim, date, dso, axle, trans
70-78 top row vehicle id,bodystyle,color
second row;trim,axle trans,dso
what these code do is provide information for equipment the car was origanally equipped with i have only supplied the codes for the most collectible engines there were also versions like sprint which had special blue and white paint and could have a 6 cyl ,california special cars with the cj drag pack and extra options are considered more valuable hi-po models being top dogs boss beingno.1 mach 1 no2 but most boss mustangs are claimed boss 429 is z code absolute top dog

Q: Classic car 1968 mustang how do I look up the vin?
I think i have the right vin number but every site tell me i need 17 numbers and i can only find 11 all the sites i find are for 1981 or later help!

A: Your 68 will not have 17 numbers. My 70 Stang only has 11 or so. I don’t have the link (cuz I’m at work) but type in mustang decoder on yahoo and there are several out there. You will be able to learn all the original specs (ie: engine size, etc.) Here are a couple of sites:

http://www.mustangdecoder.com/decoder.html

http://www.classicmustang.com/vin_data_plates.htm

There is so much info out there and many knowledgeable people who are Mustang lovers…look into an online club like Vintage Mustang Forums. Good Luck

Q: Buying a classic for mustang car.?
I’m thinking of buying a classic ford mustang and fix the car little by little. The car that I will be purchasing will be in running condition. I want to keep it as classic and stock. Not trying to fix it like a muscle car or hot rod. I just want to fix it nice and have some add ons.

My questions is should I start fixing the car from the exterior or the interior?

Would a rebuild engine will be as good as a newer engine?

What is the average costs of a new engine for a classic car?

What is the average price on a rebuild engine?

Any advice on what to look for when buying a classic car such as this one?

Thank you

A: I have re-built many classic cars. Here is what i have learned as far as Mustangs go. If you buy a 6 cylinder car it will be a bare bones car. Most of the 6 banger cars were. If you buy one of these the best i can tell you to do is up grade it. It can cost more than what the car is worth redone if you go back stock 6 banger and don’t change anything. If you do away with the 6 banger and go to a V8 like a 302 roller motor you will be bringing the worth of the car up. You can use a c4 automatic with the 302 roller. Update the brakes to power disk. If you can still find one of the old Ford Granada’s in the junk yard you can rebuild the upper and lower control arm and use the spindle to convert it to power disk brakes. It all fits. These cars had the same front ends. If i am not mistaken the 8.8 rear from a newer Mustang will fit the older mustang with a little work. Then add power steering and vintage air nice paint and wheels and you will have a Mustang that you can get your money out of if you decide to sell it. In other words, Try to find a V8 mustang if you can with as many options as you can find. You will be ahead of the Mustang game that way. Also, Buy the straightest car you can. Make sure the floors are solid and the quarters are straight and no rust out. The straighter the car you start with the better off you will be. Make sure every thing is there. The old Mustang stuff is getting hard to get and more expensive. If you can find a turn key car your better off. Start by getting it running and stopping first. Once you have it running pull the motor and trans out and gut the insides. Send it to your body man. That way he can pull all the chrome off and have it redone while he is getting the body ready. Once the body is ready and paint applied have it taken to a reupholster shop and get the inside done. Once that is done it goes back to the body man to have the motor put back in. Most body shops will not guarantee the paint under the hood or fenders unless they put the motor back in. The car stays there until it’s finished and all chrome is put back. It’s a lot of work. The more you know how to do yourself the less it will cost.

Q: Does anybody know of any nice classic cars other than first edition Mustangs?
For some reason i’ve fallen in love with classic cars. I love the 1st edition Mustangs but they can be a bit pricey so if you know of any other classic cars please let me know.

A: You should also consider that such a car may be expensive to insure. Check your insurance rates before buying one, for example here – carinsurance.yoll.net

Q: has anyone ever tried to fit a cutlass 68 engine into a classic mustang?
we have two cars that are classic, i bought a 66 mustang the other day, which doesn’t have an engine, the other car a cutlass supreme has an engine which turns over but the body work is in poor shape, i was just wondering if anyones ever put a cutlass engine in a mustang. or if its even possible, I’ve been told that it is but id have to modify some parts. cheers and thank you

A: Why would you screw up perfectly good mustang like that? It would destroy any value of the car.

Q: Buy a 1968 classic mustang or a newer car?
I’m in the market for a new car and i have always wanted a mustang either a 65 or 68 model, trouble is people are saying to me dont get a old car buy a newer car, help i need some outsider info.

A: if its a old beaten up mustang, this will sound weird but GET IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! its really fun to fix up cars. if you dont have the time just get a new car. and if the mustang is restored get the stang

Q: Do women like it when men drive classic mustangs; and/or what cars do women like to see men drive?
I am thinking of getting a new car and i was just wondering what women think of cars.

A: women dont kiss the car ,just man who drive . women thinks better in any car than on public transport. When young ,a sport car ;when older a car which looks a family can fix in.

Q: wwhere can i buy a classic car like a mustang that isnt fixed up because i want to fix one up on my own?
It doesn’t have to be a mustang but you know just a place where I can buy a classic car because whenever I happen to look them up they are always extremely expensive but its only because they’re all fixed up already so I want to buy a classic car That runs but isn’t in fantastic condition because I plan to fix it up on my own thanks for whoever helps

A: Craigslist

Q: what’s the best way to buy a classic mustang project car?
1964-1966

A: it all depends on if you’ve done one before. If you know what your doing, you can pick up some good deals on abandoned projects. If it’s your first, you should buy a driver that needs some work and learn as you go : )

Q: What is the best car alarm for my classic mustang. It is a 1965 Mustang Coupe.?
I dont have anything automatic. I have manual doors/windows. Can I put an alarm system on it? I want to just be able to protect my stereo.

A: it’s to easy to steal, the hood doesn’t even lock. I used to put a chain and lock on my hood and a ooga horn on the door button for the interior light, that will shake them up. the club on the steering would help, you could put any of the alarms on it, but there’s no Way to keep them out and getting your stereo. I advise you not to put a expensive one in it..

Store Name/ Name or Number

A: mantang ranch san jose call them parts there costly but there

Q: find cleveland county owned classic mustangs?
can you find local owned 1969 classic mustangs?

A: Look for your local Mustang Club.

Q: Has anyone every dealt with a guy that restores classic mustangs on ebay?
Or do you know anything about him, I think his ebay name is eck0211. Thanks so much.
His feedback is 100% positive. I just almost sounds like its too good to be true, someone that fully restores mustangs and sells them for under $10,000.
Thanks Bob, I’m very cautious just wanted someone to reassure me that its not a good idea

A: Check his feed back. That will help. if he has a few negatives stay away from him. I looked him up and every one had good things to say about him. Personally I wouldn’t be afraid to buy from him. Just ask a lot of questions before bidding. You all ready had your mind made up, thanks for wasting my time

Q: Are there local body shops that does body work on classic mustangs in san fernando valley or SoCAL?
not full restoration..just body work?

or are there full restoration shops that can do partial body work??

A: Check with the Ford Dealer or a Classic car dealer for referrals. Also ask an auto insurance company whom deals with classic/vintage cars. Check with a mustang club, T-bird club as well.

Q: any welders thats works on classic mustangs in san fernando valley?
Store Name/Number
Welding
Spot Welding
Classic Mustang
Auto Body
Northridge
Encino
Thousand Oaks
Etc.

A: You need some work done?

Q: Does anybody know of any nice classic cars other than first edition Mustangs?
For some reason i’ve fallen in love with classic cars. I love the 1st edition Mustangs but they can be a bit pricey so if you know of any other classic cars please let me know.

A: You should also consider that such a car may be expensive to insure. Check your insurance rates before buying one, for example here – carinsurance.yoll.net

Q: does any one know of any good car shops that deal with classic mustangs?
66 MUSTANG

A: there is one in about every town over 50k.. check your yellow pages

Q: Do you own a classic Mustang? What model and how much did you pay for it?
Basically a poll.
Tell your classic Mustang year and model. So for instance:

1967 2+2 fastback. 10,000, 9 out of 10 condition.

For Mustangs 1964-1970

I’ll start.

1965 Mustang Couple. $5,500. 9.5 out of 10.

A: 1968 Shelby GT500KR My mom paid 20k for it in 1994 (wow).
She handed it over to me for some much needed repairs and TLC. She sits right now in about a 5-10 condition. I know its going to be a long road, but damn when that thing is back together it will look awesome sitting next to my other ponies.

Q: can anyone explain classic mustangs?
Hey, I’m looking for a classic mustang coupe, but i don’t really know about what to really look for in regards to key areas of authenticity. Is there a few things which would clearly help in finding a 64.5-68 stang?

A: People modify and drop so many engines in classic stangs, its hard to tell if it’s original or not anymore…..

Alot of people simply Rebuild the current engine the car came with, or upgrade to a 302 or 351 v8.

The best years for mustangs are 67-71 IMO….

However the generally good years are 65-73.

After 73 the mustangs lost ALOT of power….actually the power started to drip off around 71 or 72 i believe…..however 73 is the Absolute LAST year i would buy, anything made 74-78 are bad and slow……
(since these were the years of the gas crisis, so people wanted fuel effiecient junk.)

So look for 65- 73 mustangs.

Heres a small chart……

65-73 – Classic mustangs
74-78 – Junk/slow mustangs
79-93 – Fox body style
94 + – longer, newer styles

Q: what is the highway and city gas milage for a 1968 elenaor? And the other classic mustangs in the 60’s?

A: depends how u drive it, depends what motor u had in it, and they got crappy gas milage probly no more than 12 city, and mabey 14 highway. in any muscle car u r not gonna get good gas milage, but i love muscle cars all the same =]

Q: What does it cost to restore a classic 1960s mustang?
If I was to buy a classic mustang that didn’t run and had a ok but not good interior, what would you estimate the price to restore it to be (approx)? What are some approximate prices from other peoples jobs? where was the car when you started and how much did you spend? Where was it when you were done?

A: This is a really tough question to answer. The one bright spot is the fact that there are lots of vendors out there and the parts are readily available.
A whole lot will depend on how much work you are willing to do yourself vs. farming it out to a repair or restoration shop, the overall condition of the vehicle when you get it and just how particular you are about the finished product.
A paint job, for instance, can cost $300 or $3000 or even more.
I have restored (as a driver – not a concours show car) a couple of Mustangs – but it was over a relatively long period of time and I never itemized the parts and materials – but I’m confident that it was a few thousand dollars for the stuff I purchased.

Q: how much do you think a classic mustang would cost?
I don’t know i just want to know because I’m planning to get one by the way I’m a 13 year old girl. yes I know what your thinking I’m crazy but Ijust want to get one. so I just want to know how much a classic mustang will cost? thank you!

A: It depends on which Mustang you are talking about.I would go to e-bay and see what they are selling for, then you will have some idea.

Q: Holley Carb question? Model 1940?
I found a Holley Carb today in my garage.. on the side that has the factory stamp including the brand name, location of production, pats pending.. etc etc.. on the very bottom it says Model 1940. it has other numbers in various places such as:
6R 4242 B

7647
1696

If it is indeed a model 1940, what type of car(s) could it of came off of? It was my grandfathers and he had many older Mustangs around his property.. Maybe from one of the V6 models?

Thanks for any information anyone may have.

A: Im not sure the 1940’s were ever factory for the Mustangs but over the years people certainly put them on them. Originals were usually an Autolite. They were not V6’s they were inline 6’s. Could have been used on anything with an inline. Ford put them in the smaller and farm type trucks, Bronco’s, Falcons, and the Mustangs. Ford put a 6 in a car till around 82. In the later years they were in Mavericks and Fairmonts.

Q: Uni lug tru spoke wire wheels?
I took a set of supposedly “uni lug” TRU SPOKE wire wheels off my 1967 mustang and listed them on ebay, then realized that they may or may not be the uni lug model and i do not actually know what bolt pattern they are. the receipt for them says the pattern is 5x 4.5, so my question is, will they fit cars of other bolt patterns? here is the ebay listing just to see if it can help you figure it out, im kind of panicking.http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=290378049617&viewitem=&sspagename=STRK%3AMESELX%3AIT#ht_4965wt_1698

A: Well, I can tell you they are NOT a uni-lug wheel because they only have one set of bolt holes. Uni-lug wheels has multiple sets of holes. Your Mustang is indeed a 5×4.5″ bolt pattern.

Q: 1967 Mustang?
I want to get this Mustang for my 17 birthday for my first car, but its tough and rusty and doesn’t exacly run. It won’t take to much to get her running. He is asking for 1500 to 2000$ should I get it.

A: nice cars and i have owned two 67 fastbacks, if its got the 289 V8 in it then i would get it but then that’s what i do for a living, and if its got the 200 6banger then i would think a few before buying it, but then again that’s what i do for a living so i would end up buying it.
the places to look on those cars for rust that’s going to cost you big, is just in front of the doors where the firewall and the floor pan meet, the floor boards both front and back and in the trunk where the bumper supports are, those are the places that they rust the most and that will cost you the most to fix, parts for that car are real easy to get and they are repopping them off like crazy, NPD ( national parts depot ) and ( year one ) have all most every thing you could ever look for on that car.
i have gotten lots of parts from NPD there phone number is 1-800-368-6451 ask them to send you one of there free catalogs on mustangs they handle stangs from 1965 to 1973, and i mean they have everything if you have the dog post and the roof pan then they have everything else and cheap as hell.

Q: Is it possible to make my 1967 mustang a fastback?
I want to take my 1967 mustang and turn it into a Shelby. But the 1967 Shelbys were fastbacks.

So is it possible to possibly cut and weld (followed by grinding and everything else) a fast back onto it?

A: Kits for this conversion are available, but when considering the kit and the required labor, I have to seriously wonder if the means justify the end.
Why not simply try and find a fast back to begin your Shelby clone with?
Check out: www.coupetofastback.com/index.htm

Q: 1967 Mustang 289 swap a three speed manual for a c4 auto?
The car is a 1967 Mustang 289 V8. What I want to do is swap out the the three speed manual transmission for a c4 automatic transmission. What I need to know:
1.Has anyone done something similar to this with success(whats your advice and is it worth it)?
2.List of all exact parts I will need to make this work?
3.How hard is it, will it need any extreme modifications?
4.Any reccommendations?

Thanks for the help.

A: I did it with my 71 Mustang, went from a 3-speed to a C4.
Regardless of what people tell you, what I DIDN’T need to change is:
- Drive shaft
- Starter
- Speedo Gear

Everything is a unbolt, boltup replacement — no cutting or anything radical.

I had to change my radiator since the one I had didn’t have the transmission cooler built in – I had a 6-cyl.
Running the transmission cooler lines were tricky since I received them all bent up.
Changing the brake pedal was easier than I thought, changed the whole support base.
Wiring for the reverse switch plugged right into the harness.
Had to change the Carb linkage to accept the kick down rod. getting it tweeked right took a little time.
Need to add a vacuum line to the transmission modulator.
Replaced the transmission mount.
Replacing the shifter was a breeze.
Pulling the flywheel off for the flex plate wasn’t too hard, remember to pull out the pilot bearing from the rear of the crank shaft. Make sure you have the right size flex plate for your engine/starter, I sized mine with the flywheel.

I did the whole thiing on a weekend.

Make SURE you replace the front and rear seals in your C4 before you install it, they need to be fresh when you install it.

Q: Looking for a good book that will help me rebuild my 1967 mustang?
Looking for a good book that will help me rebuild my 1967 mustang coupe…Other books have black and white pictures and its not that clear. I need a book that has color pictures and its clear and shows me everything step by step and the instructions are simple and clear. Tells me all the parts i need to get and where i should get them. Does anybody have any idea on any good books out there?

A: check out your local book store, then see if you can find it cheaper on amazon.com

Join our group and ask the members what their favorite book is

Q: How much is a Junker 1967 mustang or Camaro?
I have a part time job and go to college but i want to buy a P.O.S 1967 Mustang or Camaro to fix up and fully restore on my own time. But i only have a few Grand. how much would it go for? it can be shiitty everything but i want the engine to run.

A: A few grand…

Q: 1967 mustang safe to drive around and safe during an accident?
im thinking of buying a 1967 mustang and i want to know how it holds up in an accident. i found a really good deal and the only thing holding me back is my concern for the saftey of me and the people i drive around.

A: LOL. Nothing but lap belts were required back then. No side impact bars in the doors, metal everywhere, no crumple zones; no it won’t be safe in a serious crash.

Q: How to make a 1967 mustang do a wheelie?
Does anyone know what kind of Equipment i will need to make a 1967 mustang do a wheelie i know i will need a gasket scoop for more power and probably install a nox tank for more power and im goin to need a bar behind the car does anyone know what kind of equiptment i will need to make my mustang do a wheelie thx and also it has about 500hp thx =]

A: put the engine in the trunk..

Q: I need help with my 1967 Mustang. How to make sure it has a long life.?
I am getting a 1967 Mustang Hardtop. And I was wondering if there’s anything I should keep in mind to make sure that it has a long life. Yeah I know the obvious stuff like oil changes, and switching park plugs. But is there something that I might not know of and could have a significant impact on how long my car survives?.

A: all that has been said is good but conserving a classic is harder than a new vehicle.
keep the cowl (the vents in front of the windshield) covered. and if it looks like rain is coming cover to keep the water out. fist generation mustangs are notorious for developing rust in that area.
that being said fix rust when you find it. and fix it right dont use bondo (although bondo today is many time better than the old school one it still should not be used as a crutch) save up some money and buy replacement sheet metal from a place like National Parts Depot. make sure the suspension is well greased at all times. buy a “Sacrificial Anode” radiator cap and install it. its a radiator cap that has a zinc compound that absorbs corrosion in the cooling system. many will say its not worth it and to jsut keep the coolant system in decent shape. but if you can spare the money go for it.

Q: 1967 mustang wont start, but the lights etc work but starter wont crank help?
1967 mustang 6cyl

A: Check the terminals on your “starter relay” which is bolted to the inner fender passenger side. Unscrew the nuts on both sides and clean the screws. Insure that your battery cables are in good shape, and that your battery’s terminals are clean. There is no such thing as a “solenoid” in a 67 Mustang. A solenoid was a part that was attached directly to the starter in the 40’s and 50’s. People calling a starter relay a solenoid don’t know jack. In all likelihood, your starter relay needs replacement. Their life – span never was great. They are cheap to buy. ////// EDIT: I don’t care how many mechanics or parts warehouses call it a solenoid, it is the WRONG terminology. It is a starter relay. Ford AND AMC both call it a starter relay. A solenoid is round and the size of a beer can and is attached directly to the starter. A starter relay is a small round part with a square base on the inner fender well. Get a manual showing the schematic difference between a solenoid and a starter relay and you will see that indeed your Mustang has a starter relay, NOT a solenoid. Comparing a big boat 64 Galaxie to a 67 Mustang is like comparing black with green. I own a 68 Mustang. My Mustang has a starter relay, and so does yours. When I need to replace it, I go to a parts store and say: “I need a starter relay for a 68 Mustang small block” and they know exactly what I mean. They don’t say: “Oh, you mean a solenoid?” R & R your starter relay and replace both battery cables and she WILL start. Trying to “jump – start” your Mustang with booster cables ain’t going to accomplish anything if your starter relay is shot. Period.

Q: who knows where to by a 1967 for mustang motor?
I want to buy a 1967 mustang motor….where can I get one? and new or used is fine, I just need a well working motor….and how much do they go for? I got this for my 16th birthday…so i really wanna get it fixed up its a project I am looking forward to,

A: Here ya’ go…

http://sfbay.craigslist.org/eby/pts/864458378.html

Q: Original interior wiring harness for a 1967 mustang coupe?
I am looking for a interior wiring harness that won’t cost me a fortune. Dallas Mustang is selling it for $620 and that is too much. Can someone please tell me any one who might be selling the original interior wiring harness for a 1967 mustang for less that $620. Thanks

A: There is more than one wiring harness.

Year One sell a dash harness for about $485. An instrument cluster harness for about $160.

You need to get used to the fact that replacement parts for a classic car are expensive. This is especially true if you are looking for OEM style parts.

It is fortunate that you can even find parts so plentiful for a classic car. Be thankful that you are not tryig to find parts for something like a Rambler American or a 64 Chrysler 300.

Q: 1967 mustang!!?
I am looking for one. I want one so bad but have limited finances. I am too young to get a loan and only have about 3,000 dollars to work with. Does anybody have any cars available or any advice in buying or looking for a car. I have never done this before. P.S. This car has to run. I have to be able to drive it, so I can’t really work with a complete project car. Please help my dream come true!!!
I know it will be difficult to find what i am looking for. I don’t want it to be perfect. And I expect to have to do something with it. I would just like it to be able to run and die on me the first day. I am asking in order to find tips on finding a mustang.

A: Not going to happen, unless you get extremely lucky. It is very unlikely you will find a road worthy 67 Mustang for this price.

Kind of crappy, drivable ones go for about twice that. A decent one will be at least 8 to 10 thousand. A nice one will be at least 20 thousand.

Unlikely you will get a loan for a car like this. Keep saving your money until you get enough to buy one.

Check eBay Motors for a 67 Mustang. They currently have 66 of them listed. You can see what they are selling for.

Q: Who knows where to by a 1967 for mustang motor?
Who knows where to by a 1967 for mustang motor?
I want to buy a 1967 mustang motor….where can I get one? and new or used is fine, I just need a well working motor….and how much do they go for? I got this for my 16th birthday…so i really wanna get it fixed up its a project I am looking forward to,

10 points whoever gives best answer. please help!

A: Why not go find yourself a donor fox body mustang? The 302 will drop right in and you can steal all the electronics and the harness and enjoy the beauties of fuel injeciton. Try Autozone. The go through Craigslist. I just looked and saw a few in Houston. Any engine shop can get you one. Try www.speedomotive.com if you want something with pep.

Q: 1967 Mustang ?
Im most likely buying this one i found one craigslist, and its got some rust here and there how do you go about fixing that, do you have to buy an all new hood and parts or can u get it off? thanks!!

A: repair or replace,

Q: 1967 Mustang Coupe V8 – Did they make that year in white with red interior 3 speed?
Do you know of any web sight I can see the different interior and exterior colors.

Something like this

500 made with exterior in white and exterior in red
2,000 made green exterior with green interior….

Anything out there like that?????

I’m trying to find a 1967 White Mustang V8 with bright Red interior – coupe or convertible – 3 speed.

A: yourwarranty plate would read color m=wimbleton white trim 2D=red trans 1=3spd manual

Q: 1965 Mustang?
We are getting my son a 1965 Mustang that he wants to fix up. His fixing up and my fixing are two different things. He wants to “pimp” it out. Is there a website or program that will allow him to look at different options, such as paint, wheels, etc and change around with colors and such to decide before he actually has it done?

A: a 65 mustang is a classic why does he want to ruin it

Q: 1965 mustang??
i have been looking for a cheap 65 mustang. will settle for a project. please help

A: Believe it or not, alot of projects and restored cars are sold on eBay motors. I would check that out, because alot of times they dont put reserves on the cars and you can get one for reaaaaaallly cheap. In fact, I bought a 72 Camaro SS the other day off eBay and i was really satisfied.

If not, try another car site, like mautofied.com.

Hope that helps! Good Luck!

Q: What is the best reference resource for restoring a 1965 Mustang?
What is the best reference resource for restoring a 1965 Mustang? I am interested in books, manuals, websites, anything! I have never restore a classic car before, but I am very mechanically inclined. Thanks for the help!

A: Mustang Restorers Guide..available at ebay and amazon.com

Q: what is the gas mileage for a 1965 mustang?
for my 16th birthday my dream has been a red convertible 1965 mustang. i think i will be able to save up enough to buy one but i don’t know if i can handle gas. does anyone know how many miles per gallon a 65′ mustang gets?

A: I wish you were my daughter.

I bought a 1965 convertible, 289 engine, white, all original when my daughter was born in 1979.

I bought it for her when she turned 16. I figured that would be enough time to restore it clean.

She never liked the car, she looked at it and wanted to know when I was going to get rid of it.

I sold it in 2003 to a friend for $5,000.

The 289 engine got (good tune up) up to 17 MPG on the hwy.
in town, it got somewhere around 14MPG.

Moral of story —- Save your money, buy it, take care of it, and drive carefully. Remember it is a classic.

Bill

Q: What is the best way to sell a 1965 Mustang that is not in running condition? Or would it b better to restore
A family member died and had a 1965 Mustang. It is in really poor condition and I was about to sell it but was wondering if anyone has restored one. Would it cost me more to restore it than it would be worth? I thought that the original Mustang would be valuable even if not in good condition but I think that may be incorrect. Help please.

A: yeah restoring is only worth it if you can do everything yourself. If not try selling it on craiglist.com or your local newspaper

Q: My favorite cars have been the 1965 Mustang and the Shelby Mustang?
I don’t think I have a prayer with the Shelby Mustang, but it’s good to dream right? How much would it cost to rebuild a 1965 Mustang and make it a convertable? Just curious

Karl
Jet,

I’m just asking, I didn’t know all of those things. Where would you recommend getting the frame for starters?

A: If your 1965 has a lot of rust and would need good metal work done then you could just leave the top off and make a restomod of it. Mustangs Plus has a retractable hardtop you could make out of it also. If you like Shelbys then make a clone of one. 1965 make good Shelby clones.

Q: Need a recomendation for a company in South East Baltimore to paint my 1965 Mustang at a reasonable price?
I live in South East Baltimore, MD and I am looking for a company who can paint my 1965 Mustang at a reasonable price.

A: Look in yellow pages.

Q: How hard would it be to put a new engine in a 1965 mustang?
I have a 1965 Mustang how hard would it be to put a new engine from a newer mustang? this is a v6 mustang and i wanna put a newer v8 motor! how hard and what are soem special things i woudl need.

A: The 1965 did not come with a V6.
With this tidbit of misinformation, you need to study your mustang lore and be more familiar with it.
You really NEED to join a local Mustang club so they can teach you, young apprentice.
Do you have a 4-lug or 5-lug wheel?
Do you have an automatic or stick?
You need to seek out and answer these simple questions for they will lead to the beginning to your long journey.

Q: Where is the timing mark on the Harmonic Balancer of a 1965 Mustang 289?
I’m trying to find the timing mark on a 1965 Mustang with a 289 V8. There are no distinguished marks on the HB so I don’t know where to set the timing light. Does anyone know the degrees to which their timing mark is set at in correlation to the key of the HB?

A: hello,…. try to locate a line on the HB , it will look li8ke a plain line clean the balancer real good, when and if you find it take some white paint and mark it. All cars have them but sometimes they get filled with dirt and grease. It’s there just keep looking . email me if you need more help.

Q: how do you fit a 351winsor in a 1965 mustang?
I have a 1965 mustang and i have a 351winsor and a c-4 tran. can i bolt this right in?

A: it can be done without modifing the front towers, been done lots of times, there are people in my group that are more familiar with it than me.

Q: What is the best engine oil additive to use for a 1972 Chevelle SS? or a 1965 Mustang?
What is the best engine oil additive to use for a 1972 Chevelle SS? or a 1965 Mustang? I know older engines require more lubrication and I was looking for advice on what additives to use in my vehicles! Thank you!

A: You need 1 additive only. Both of your cars probbly has a flat tappet cam in them.

Flat tappet cams needs ZDDP (zinc) to live with out wipping a lobe out.

The EPA has pulled the major part of zinc out of todays SM API rated oils due to smog crap and zinc clogs of cat converters

So you need an oil that has a high zinc content in it like VR1 racing or some other racing oils

Or just run a good std oil and toss in a bottle of brake in lube/zinc additive

Myself I run mobil 1 sysn. oil and put half a bottle of lucas zinc break in lube with each oil change

Other than the zinc additive forget the rest of the junk out there. Its all snake oil

Q: Where can I find dual side pipe exhaust for a 1965 Mustang 200ci Straight 6 engine?
I have a 1965 mustang and I would like to put side pipes on it, but I can not find where to get the exhaust system. I already have the header but I would like some help finding the pipes. Thanks

A: Any muffler/exhaust shop in your area should be able to install side pipes on your vehicle. You may want to add cherry bombs or another kind of muffler on it to keep it somewhat bearable.

Hope this helps, good luck!

Q: 1965 Mustang?
can i have a/c installed into this car??
ok no i am not broke…lol…i want to restore it but have the some of the luxuries that newer cars do…a/c is one of them…

A: yes vintage air is your best bet

Q: Would a 1965 mustang pass an emissions test in Virginia in Rockingham county?
I’ve just always been a fan of 1965 mustangs and I just wanna see if I wanna get one.

A: shouldnt have to have one or pass one being that old

Q: 1965 Mustang AC system,What are these items worth?
I have a 1965 mustang AC condensor, and an AC unit that goes under the dash in the car, what would a Ballpark figure of what these items are woth be? Also the AC condensor has been sitting up for about 24 years do you think it is still good?
Maybe its the AC pump, not condensor, it is the thing mounted on the engine with a pulley on it?

A: Without being rebuilt/reconditioned they aren’t worth a lot. The under dash unit is really the only thing that is worth any money and only if it is an original Ford unit. There were a lot of after market units put in ’65s and they aren’t worth anything used.
