Q: I have a 67 mustang, I’v droped a 351 windsor and I used stock motor mounts The headers hits floor boards?
I need to know if I should use 351w mounts, I need to lower motor 1″ to clear the floor pan I talked to the guy I purchased the headers said they should work anyone had this problem I’m stumped everything says it should but it does’nt
A: try these options, lower motor mounts, lower tranny mount, lower the muffler hangers… or different brand headers.. have a muffler shop custom fit them..
Q: 67 mustang rear quarter panels?
which is best to use quarter panels that fit the coupe or full quarter panels, i’m replaceing my and i want to know which are easest for the body shop to install. i have a 67 mustang fast back, and prefer to use the coupe panels so i don’t have to remove interior parts. please let me know which way to go. thanks
A: i do this some times at my shop, and i always use the full panels ,but its more work if yours aren’t that bad and don’t want to fool with all the interior work, the half quarters work as good,,if you don’t need full ones i wouldn’t put them on,,just make sure that who ever is doing this is good at it,,if not they will warp the car,i seen one ,that you could tell they were welded on wrong,,and it looked bad, anyone who knows about cars will be able to see this also, but id go with the half quarters if your upper part is good,,hope this help,s.good luck with it,,happy new years.
Q: 67 mustang and cougar parts?
I’m restoring a 67 Cougar Xr7 And I’ve use a lot of 67 Mustang parts for it. Now I’m in need of a Dash and I’m not sure if it well work, Dose any one Know if a 1967 Ford mustang Dash well pop in a 67 Mercury cougar?
I would like to know so I can order one or not
Many Thanks!
A: the cougars and mustangs used different dashes. The mustangs had the “scooped” inserts, while the cougars had a straight pad on them. If you swapped the whole dash frame and everything, it should work, and you will have something unique.
If you already have the frame and just need the cap, Mustangs Unlimited sells the cap for the Cougars. They also have a free Cougar catalog that I recommend.

Q: can you use 67 fenders on 68 mustang?
A: 67 68 same hoods, frount fenders, doors, bumpers, and trunk lid are interchanagable. Even the side insert pannels, tail lights, head lights, grill and driving lights are the same. So as far as the exterior goes they are the came except for the reflectors/side marker lights which I neve cared for and have seen people fill them.
Q: What is the best oil to use in my ‘67 Mustang…?
To keep it running smoothly and all…
A: Best Mustang ever made. Four on the floor with an acceleration factor that will slam your navel into your spine. I would use virgin olive oil when only the best will do.
Q: wires running from the top of the bonnet in ‘67 mustang?
i have seen the film “gone in 60 seconds”. in the film two wires on the top of the bonnet of mustang were seen. what are they and why they used?
A: on elenor? I presume your referering to the engine hood as the bonnet though I am not posative. if there were wires on the “top” of the hood behind the scoop it was clearly a mistake scene, because all wiring would have been routed under the hood and from neer the hood hinges. the film crew may have wanted some lighting inside her scoop to cause some dramatic look from the camera angle. there are 2 wire pins that are at the front of the hood with wires holding the safty pin/clips to the grill could that have been the wires?
Q: ‘67 mustang with c-4 automatic transmission, does not reverse shift since 2 days ago – ATFfluid had been low -?
it use to give a little bussing sound when low, then when i filled it was ok. Can this be caused by bad vaccuum modulator now. It’s just reverse not working.
A: It’ll probably have to be rebuilt. Personally, I junked the C4 from my ‘65 and put in a late model Tremec T-5 5-speed, and couldn’t be happier.
Q: Is there a resource for determining the value of older used cars?
I have two cars I need to sell.
One is a 67 Ford Mustang in poor condition and the other is a 84 Ford Truck (no additional info, it’s a truck) in just fair condition. I can find plenty of resources for determining the value of restored vehicles but I’m having trouble finding something for cars that are heaps of junk.
Any help?
kelly blue book doesn’t go past 1990, but thanks.
A: Mannheim Gold Book is one source and the NADA classic guide is another. There is also the OCPG (Old car price guide) They give an idea what a car is worth but those prices are not set in stone. I have seen many cases where a car sold for a lot less than the book quoted. Actual condition and current market values have a lot of impact on what it would actually bring,
Q: First car? 67 Mustang? Input? It all helps.?
I need some help what is a good looking, reliable first car.
Preferably one with some acceleration. Top speed dosn’t matter i never use it I just like accelerating quickly haha.
Im a 15 year old male so my insurance is going to be bad anyway.
But im a die hard mustang fan ive loved 60’s cars since i was in diapers would a restored mustang be a good ride?
I can get it cheap and good looking, I just need input.
Sound like a good choice?
Or do you have a better one?
Also i have two jobs and get great rades in school so these jobs do not effect my schooling.
I make around $250 so i am paying for insurance, gas and the car. I have inheratence, a job, and loaning money from my dad (that i will be paying back after college).
A: I just recently got a 67 Mustang with a 289 and C-4 transmission as my first car (I am seventeen now) and I absolutely love it. It was purchased for about $4000 and was in very good condition and had the original engine (with about 135,000 miles) and transmission. Both ran for about a year and then the engine seized up and now both the engine and transmission are being rebuilt.
I would totally recommend the 67 as a first car, but just be aware that old cars require a lot more maintenance than newer cars and the costs can certainly add up (something I am learning every day
) It definitely helps if you can do most of the work and I am fortunate enough to have a mechanic for a boyfriend and a car enthusiast for a brother. Together the three of us (me, boyfriend and the brother) have a 68 Mercury Cougar, a 67 Mustang, and a 65 Ford Falcon and we all love our old cars. I would definitely recommend a little Falcon or a big Cougar if you cannot find a well priced Mustang because both have a feel similar to the old Mustangs, but can be considerably cheaper. Before I got my car, my dad was really worried about me having an older car because of safety issues, expenses and other things. My mum’s first car was also a 67 Mustang way back in the day, so she was encouraging me to get one.
As I said, I personally love my 67 Mustang. Right now I can’t drive it because of all the repairs happening, but hopefully it will be done soon. If you really have your heart set on a classic mustang and can afford one, I say go for it. If it doesn’t work out for you, I am sure you will have no problem selling it and getting something that will work out better. There definitely moments when I wish I had a newer car (usually because of the 116 degree weather here in CA, and no A/C and I end up feeling like a baked potato in that car), but those moments are few and far between. Gas can also get expensive because those old engines do not like to run on the new gas and they do not get very good gas mileage (my 289 got about 15 mpg). Also, you will most likely have manual brakes (I have never had a problem, but I brake early just in case) and possibly manual steering. The seat belts are just lap belts, but I think you can get some sort of conversion kit or newer high backed bucket seats which can allow for the shoulder straps. Obviously, it is an old car with older technology, so be aware that it can get annoying, like when you are driving in the hard rain with only two wiper speeds and slippery drum brakes (and most likely your car will leak water, unless it has good seals).
I would personally recommend the 289 or a six cylinder. I always think of my 289 as a baby V-8 (my brother even bought one for his Falcon because he liked mine so much and he originally wanted a 302) because it has just the right amount of power for me and, from what I have seen looking around on craigslist for a Mustang before I got my baby, 289 seem to be a little cheaper than a 302 or anything larger. And the straight 6’s are so strong. My brothers was running on about 4 cylinders when he first got it!
I know that was a lot to read, but I always get excited when I can encourage someone else to go for it and get a classic Mustang or any other older car. They really are so much fun, though expensive, the memories I have created with my car are priceless. I hope some of this helped you and I also hope I made sense. I don’t really know all that much about cars (just what I hear from my brother and boyfriend when they talk) so I hope I didn’t say anything too unbelievable or downright wrong. Anyway, good luck finding a nice Classic Mustang (or any other car you might choose)!
Q: buying a 65-66 mustang..yes or no???
is buying a 65 or 66 mustang a good idea for an 18 year old? just a project car ranging from 3000 to 4000, nothing fancy such as an A code, california car, shelby, etc….just a regular mustang that would obviously need some work. my actual question is “is it a good investment in buying one of these cars and slowly fixing them up?” any good advice or suggestions would do good!
p.s i dont have the money yet.. i am currently saving up, i already have a car i use for work and school. I USE TO HAVE A 67 mustang THAT I BOUGHT FOR 1400 AND SOLD FOR 2100..and i sold it because of the body being bigger than the 65-66 bodies. and it was 6cyl…
A: Very few cars can be considered an investment. By the time you figure out how much it costs you to repair everything that is wrong with a Mustang that only costs $3000 and all the hard work and restoration the car will need you won’t be gaining anything.
But if you like old cars and enjoy fixing them up yourself and the satisfaction that goes along with all that then go ahead and buy a classic Mustang to drive and restore. But if you are buying it as an investment, forget it, you’ll never get out of it what you put in it.
Q: power steering on 67 289 mustang?
Has anybody replaced the old original power steering pump on a windsor small block with a pump off of a newer car? I’m looking for models and years of cars that would have a pump that would fit. I’d like to use the original mounting bracket but I would be willing to rig up a custom one if needed.
The reason I wanted a newer model pump was because the original squeeked and leaked. I figured ford would have made a few improvements on it between the 60s and the 80s (even though they sure went downhill in other areas of the car). I took the pump off when I was restoring it and drove it for 4 years just fine but the salt and sand in FL dont make it the ideal place too keep it. Its retiring and I wanted the pump back on so its easier for other people to drive it once in a while so it dosnt rust away.
A: It’s going to be hard to find a pump that will fit that car using the original brackets and that will line up with the other pulleys. Not to mention finding one in good condition. You don’t say why you want to do this but if it’s because your pump is bad why not just have it rebuilt?
Just look in the phone book for a rebuilder of steering components in your area. If there are none then google Mustang parts vendors and you will find plenty of them that will sell you a new or rebuilt pump just like the one you now have and many will rebuild your pump if you’ll send it to them. Once you start to rig up a custom job you’ll run into all kinds of problems trying to get the thing to line up and the hoses to fit right. And take it from someone that has done this a few times that
can be a real nightmare. You’ll save time, money and alot of headaches just buying one or rebuilding the one you’ve got. Good Luck
Q: What are my chances for being approved for auto financing?
I have been wanting to purchase a vehicle for sometime now. I paid all cash for my first car but for the car of my dreams, i’m going to need to finance. Now i’m not trying to buy an 07 Vette or something, were talking a ‘67 Mustang Coupe ($7000). If I tried saving up for it, it’d take me all year (don’t plan on leaving my current job for awhile) and by then the car *might* be gone. This is not at a dealership. It’s a used car lot where the owners sell the cars to prospective buyers through car sales people. So the owners sit back and relax at home till someones interested. I started my first credit card back in August of ‘05. Since then i’ve mostly paid my card on time (had two hiccups last year) and I usually pay more than the minimum. My only collatteral is my ‘86 Chevy Celebrity if that matters. I have a bank account and can easily save $1000 by the end of the next month (taxes). So what do you think my chances are of being approved? Should I pay off my credit card first?
A: If you are financing your next automobile, getting a good deal is probably a top priority. Each year, millions of car buyers obtain bad auto loans. These include upside down loans, loans with extremely high rates, and so forth. Before getting an auto loan, make sure you understand the terms of the loan. Here are a few techniques to help you get the best loan.
Boost Your Credit Rating before Applying for New Auto Loan
Your credit rating will determine the type of auto loan you are offered. If you have bad credit, lenders generally offer a loan package with an interest rate a few points higher than the current average. Dealership financing is the worse in regards to interest rate hikes.
To qualify for a low rate auto loan, improve your personal credit score. Before applying for an auto loan, check your credit. Inaccuracies and negative remarks greatly affect your rate. If errors are present, work to have them corrected. Moreover, do not skip payments to creditors and pay creditors on time. Q: Do you think my mustang will start up just the cleaning of carb and new gas. What will i have to do if not.?
I have a 67 mustang with 302 in it. It has not run for 15 years. It used to run great i just didnt have time to go out and start it anymore. I know that was stupid but o well. It is in a shed away from weather. do you think it sweeted and is rushed. The engine dipstick say it has oil so does trans. and it is good. I didnt drain gas and tank still has some in it. do you think i can clean carb. and drain tank put new hoses on, change all fluids and start it up or will i have to do more. Again the engine look desent from outside just a little rust from dirt setting on it.
A: take coil wire off spin over engine for a little get oil pressure up then put wire back on then it should run
Q: can i use a fox body mustang axle on my ranchero?
i have a 61 ranchero with a 5.0 efi engine out of a 92 thunderbird and a 5-speed trans out of an 83 mustang and i am looking into an axle for it. as of right now it has fords little 7.5″ axle and those wont withstand the hp. the ranchero i have came with the 144 l6 engine. i saw where people had started using a 8.8 inch rear end out of the fox body mustangs on 67 model mustangs. i want to say the width i pretty close on a 61 ranchero and a 66 stang but im not sure on the 67. i believe they were the same but not possitive. im already planning to change the ranchero to coil springs anyway. if they where close i was just going to do some fabricating to make them fit. if the axle is to wide to make work i can always use the 8″ out of the 70s maverics but i would prefer the 8.8. what are the widths of the fox body 8.8, the maverick 8″, the 67 stangs and the 61 ranchero.
A: Yes (too answer the basic question).
A inch or two wider can easily be corrected with proper back spacing of the wheels.
You will need to move/replace the spring perches no matter what as you are going to coils vs the stock leafs the Ranchero came with. Look up info on swaps made to early Falcons for more info on your project.
Have Fun (Cool ride by the way)
Q: 1967 mustang engine swap?
Im trying to install a 351 cleveland engine into a 67 mustang that had a 289 v8. Would anyone know what flexplate to use to keep the stock auto trans. Im not sure if I need a 157 or a 164 tooth flexplate
A: that engine bay was designed for the big block 390 FE, so it can be done with custom motor mounts, but the c4 tranny won’t cut it….you’ll need the whole package with the C6…and a new radiator..
